The Order of St. Bento d’Aviz

A Knight’s Breast Badge, 40x25 mm., GOLD, approx. 6 g.white enameled, five-armed cross with ball finials and thin border, flanked by green enameled olive and laurel wreath; obverse and reverse centre medallions bearing the green enameled Order’s cross on white background with polished golden border; the upper arm with hinged, tall, Brazil’s Imperial crown with finely embossed details; round suspension ring, with original ribbon with red stripes (after certain sources this means an award for military merit).
A beautifully-made cross from 1850–1855 ca. also in the typical, relatively small size of Brazil’s early badges. I R!
