A Grand Cross Set; Sash Badge in Gold, shaped as a beaming sun with a dark-toned eagle with spreaded wings above clouds and the motto “ALTIORA PETO”, within a gilt palm and green enameled laurel branches, surmounted by the crowned, royal monogram “A XII”; below, a polychrome enameled shield at Spain’s arms; smooth reverse, round suspension ring, with the original, purple silk sash; Breast Star in Gold and enamels, shaped as the order’s badge; the rays’ extremities, lacquered in purple-brown colour; the reverse, fitted with a thin, round pin and two side-hooks; in the original, brown morocco, fitted case of issue, the lid with gold embossed medallion with Athena’s head surrounded by the inscription “CIRCULO DE BELLAS ARTES”; the inner cushion, with maker’s mark of Cejalvo y Garcia, Madrid.
A beautiful set of this rare order, scarcely awarded between 1902 and 1931; excellent condition.
Dim.: the badge, 58,0 x 55,5 mm., aprox 15 g., the star, 80,5 x 80,0 mm., 68.42 g.; with 22 emeralds for a total of 2,14 ct. I RR!
