Merit Cross of Miguel I of Bragança

Five armed Gold Cross with sea-blue enameled border and ball finials to the tips, flanked by fleurs-de-lys; red enameled centre medallion bearing the golden bust of the King facing left, within beaded outer circlet; the reverse with finely chiseled and engraved details; centre medallion bearing the inscription “D.M.I.° 1829” in raised lettering on matted ground; rectangular upper loop and horizontal, golden ribbon bar.
A beautiful, very rare decoration, worth further study to exactly determine its purpose. The excellent quality and execution of the piece, allows us to consider it as a high reward for special merits towards the sovereign. Excellent condition.
