ITALY Kingdom of Naples and of the two Sicilies

An early set of the Order: Badge in GOLD, the arm with red enameled “flames” and white enameled border, flanked by chiseled fleurs de lys with polished details; the centre with the polychrome enameled image of the Saint rising from golden clouds and dressed as a bishop, holding the book and two red enameled ampoules on closed book; the right hand, with gesture of blessing; the reverse, with round centre medallion with two red enameled ampoules within red enameled palm branches signifying martyrdom; ornamented upper loop and strong, suspension ring; with original, red silk sash; embroidered breast star, made with different types of silver and gilt-silver threads; the fleurs de lys made of embossed sheet-silver.
A very early set, dating to the late 18th Century; the star shows wear, but is nonetheless highly attractive for its patina and appearance as a whole with its accompanying badge and its original, sash. Extremely fine condition.
Dim.: the badge, 59,0 x 60,0 mm; the star, dia. 103,0 mm. approx. I RR!
