Gold class, as awarded to Generals: Gilt Bronze oval medallion in the form of polished rays with finely chiseled details; centre medallion in gold embossed with crossed sword and green enameled laurel branch and the crowned monogram “P.I” on pebbled ground; night-blue enameled outer circlet bearing the golden inscription “RESTAURACAO DA BAHIA 1823”; on top, suspension loop in the form of acanthus leaves, to which a typical, large, embossed Brazil’s imperial crown is hinged; suspension ring and original ribbon; smooth reverse.
An extremely rare decoration, instituted by Imperial decree of July 2nd, 1823, as a reward for those who distinguished in the combats for the liberation of Bahia from the Portuguese troops during Brazil’s War of Independence; excellent condition.
