Amusing decorative element

Amusing decorative element (probably a staircase ball, bedpost or vegetable seed...) in imitation of the pomegranate fruit, gilded cast iron, round base marked "A.F" on the bottom, screw-pierced. Antique work circa 1900. Beautiful naturalistic carving, good general condition. The pomegranate symbolizes fertility and abundance. Dimensions 83 x 56 mm.
