Oil on canvas depicting a lady in a blue dress wearing the Saint Catherine the Great Martyr order, Russian school
18th Century, dimensions 41.5x33.5 cm. The Saint Catherine the Great Martyr order was created by Peter the Great in November 1714 was awarded only to women. This lady wears the lesser cross of the order with the scarlet ribbon bearing "For Love and Fatherland". Such award was reserved to ladies of the highest nobility of Russia. The dress and hair style are obviously from the 18th Century.

Circular view representing a project for ceiling decoration "Angels in clouds" and a pencil sketch on the back, monogram "E" of Nikolai Ludwigowitch Ellert on January 13th, 1873. The famous composer Tchaikovsky created in Moscow (supervisor Nicolas Rubinstein) symphony no. 2 "Little Russia" on January 26th, 1873, based on Ukrainian folk tales. Ellert was stage draftsman in charge of decorations of Imperial Opera in Moscow and likely produced this preparatory watercolor for this occasion. Sheet in good condition, dimensions 44.5x41.5 cm.
