The extraordinary set of 1st Class (Grand Cross) together with awarding document to General Louis Joffre: Sash badge in gilt Silver as a white enameled double-headed eagle with red enameled, oval centre medallion bearing the gilt and enameled coat of arms of Serbia within moulded and beaded outer circlet; upper, Royal crown with long, blue enameled scrolling pendalia, link ring and broad, grooved and beaded suspension ring, the reverse with red enameled centre medallion bearing the year “1882”, within outer circlet similar to the obverse from which two prongs depart to reinforce the suspension to the crown’s pendalia; fitted with original, full-length sash ribbon; Breast Star in gilt Silver with polished and chiseled rays, the centre as the sash badge’s obverse, but smaller, with elegantly chiseled and engraved details, the reverse, fitted with vertical pin; the whole, in its original, off-white case of issue, the lid with gold embossed coat of arms and indication of the class and fitted, inner compartment; with original award document to Louis Joffre as Général de Division and French Chief of Staff, dated in Belgrade on March 5th, 1912, with original signature of King Peter and of the Chancellor of the Royal Serbian Orders.
An outstanding set, together with the awarding document to one of the most prominent military leaders of the Entente, excellent condition.
