The Grand Cross set of the Order, belonged to the Duke of Cambridge
Early 2nd type Sash Badge in Gold (Bavarian type, with originally changed medallions) with white enameled arms flanked by green enameled oak and laurel wreath; the obverse medallion, with finely painted portrait of the Saviour, within blue enameled outer circlet bearing golden inscription; blue enameled reverse medallion with gold-bordered, white enameled cross; blue enameled outer circlet with golden inscription; thin, round upper loop, to which the royal crown is linked by means of a “U”-shaped loop connected to the crown’s base (typical detail of the early “Bavarian” type); round suspension ring and original, full sash ribbon with bow; Breast Star in Silver with chiseled and pierced rays; centre medallion in gold with miniature-enameled portrait of the Saviour within beaded, golden borders enclosing the convex, blue enameled outer circlet bearing golden inscription; polished reverse with vertical, round pin; together, the original letters from King George to his “Très Affectionné Frère et Cousin”, the Duke of Cambridge.
A beautiful, very rare set of this Order, with an outstanding provenance; excellent condition. Dim.: the badge, 121,8 x 76,0 mm.; the star, 81,0 mm. I RR!
