Order of Calatrava

An early, jewelled cross of the Order: convex, Silver round medallion with traces of gilding, with the order’s cross (remains of the original enamel), within a richly chiseled frame of rocailles and branches, set with amethysts; richly engraved gold reverse with a tiny nut retaining the obverse centre; upper hook and tiny, round, suspension ring.
A beautiful decoration, that could be dated to the early/mid 18th Century. Excellent condition, considering its age. Dim.: 41,5 x 35,0 mm. I RR!
