Military Order of Christ

A Breast Star of the Order in Prince size, with beautifully chiseled and pierced rays in Silver, after the typical, Portuguese style; white enameled centre medallion with separately-made, red and white enameled cross of the order in gold with finely engraved and chiseled details; silver, beaded border and white enameled outer circlet in gold with thin, radiating beams and a double, waving border in gold with fine beaded ornamentation; on top, red enameled “sacred heart”; concave reverse, with also concave countermedallion and broad pin, this, struck with a (probably French) mark.
A rare, and particularly attractive star of reduced size in the finest quality from the mid 19th Century, excellent condition.
