An early, embroidered Breast Star of the Order as a cross of Maltese type, 87 x 84 mm., the arms with a double row of golden sequines held and bodered of gold wire, the inner portion with green lacquered, gilt sheet silver, to the centre a gilt silver Greek cross bearing the engraved motto “ATAVIS & ARMIS” and the monograms “SI” and “MA”, the tips and the inner arms’ ends with tiny loops of gold wire. to fasten the star to the habit; the reverse, backed with thick paper.
A beautiful, important star from the 2nd half of the 18th Century, around the date of the Order’s renovation in 1779, excellent condition. I RR!
