Complete Grand Cross Set. Sash Badge, 92.3x 63.3 mm., GOLD, with white enameled cross with pomed endings, flanked by towers with chiseled and engraved details, white enameled centre medallion, with image of the saint in the finest enamel miniature, blue enameled outer circlet, bearing the inscription “SAN MARINO PROTETTORE”, white enameled, reverse centre medallion with enameled coat of arms of the Republic, within blue enameled outer circlet bearing the inscription “MERITO MILITARE”, large suspension crown and round ring, original sash ribbon. Breast Star, 86.8 mm., with beautifully chiseled and pierced silver rays, white enameled cross in gold, similar to the badge, but flanked by green enameled oak and laurel branches, blue enameled centre medallion bearing the golden inscription “RELINQUO VOS LIBEROS AB UTROQUE HOMINE”, within golden outer circlet with chiseled as faceted, golden beads, gilt, polished reverse, with vertical pin and maker’s escutcheon of "Halley, Paris", in the original, night-blue morocco case, with fitted inner compartment; TOGETHER, the award document, given in San Marino, on September 19th, 1899, to Emil Loubet, President of the French Republic
An early and extremely rare set, dating to the last quarter of the 19th Century, of the finest, French manufacture and interesting provenance, excellent condition. I RR!
