Spectacular apologetic kakemono/makimono scroll based on the painted original, composed of a vast frame engraved on paper (ukiyo-e style) and enhanced in color, representing a large number of court figures (nobles, soldiers, samurai, courtesans, etc.) in the image of traditional pre-Meiji society, each figure depicted full-length, facing forward, in an advantageous posture, designated by “kanji” calligrams. Important explanatory text on a border. Red-stamped workshop and executor hanko buckets. Mounted on textile (silk). Work from the early third of the 19th century. This vast, masterfully depicted fresco, a work of excellent craftsmanship in the engraved transcription of the painted original and in the subtlety of the colors, is imbued with striking realism and nostalgia for the Sakoku values that the ancient empire embodied. The interior weave is in a very fine state of preservation, fresh and preserved. Old damp stains on the exterior of the weave. Extraordinary, very rare and decorative scroll, of very important dimension! Dim. 333 x 34 cm. I-II RR!
