Grand Cross Set of the 2nd Type. Sash Badge, 87x57 mm, in GOLD with white enameled cross,flanked by green enameled oak and laurel wreath between the arms; obverse centre medallion in gold with portrait of Christ in finest enamel miniature painting; blue enameled outer circlet with the Order’s motto; blue enameled reverse medallion, with white cross in the centre, surrounded by Greek inscription in gold lettering; hinged suspension crown with enameled “jewels” and round suspension ring; with original, full length sash ribbon. Breast Star, 91 mm, with diamond-cut and pierced rays; centre medallion like that of the badge’s obverse, enriched with chiseled, gold, inner and outer rings; smooth reverse with concave counter-medallion and maker’s escutcheon of Pomonis, Athens; broad, tapering, vertical pin and two side-hooks; in the original, gold embossed, red case of issue with black velvet, fitted inner compartment; the lid’s inner cushion, with maker’s mark of Pomonis, Athens, printed in gold; together, the award document and related papers, to Charles Jonnart, from April 1913.A beautiful, excellently made set, dating from the late 19th Century, almost excellent condition.Charles Jonnart (1857-1927) was France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1911 until the outbreak of WW1 ; he was also involved in the politics of France in Algeria.
