Grand Cross Set of the Order. Sash Badge, 110x71 mm, in GOLD with white enameled arms and strong, polished, ball-finials, flanked by chiseled oak wreath tied below; white enameled centre medallion with "L II" monogram (for Leopold II), within night-blue enameled outer circlet bearing golden inscription "MERITO CIVILE"; reverse medallion with the year "1853" on white enamel, within night-blue enameled outer circlet bearing a golden, stylized laurel wreath; upper loop asacanthus leaves, hinged grand-ducal crown and large, round, suspension ring; this, struck with the "FR" mark of Rothe, Vienna and gold mark for 14 Kt. (1867-1922); highly convex Breast Star, 80x84 mm, Silver, with details imitating the sequined and bullion embroidery; centre medallion with polished "LII" monogram within "MERITO CIVILE 1853" and chiseled, beaded outer ring; polished reverse with concave counter medallion, struck with "FR" and "greyhound" silver marks; broad pin with maker`s mark "C.F. ROTHE" - WIEN" and two "A" guarantee marks; in the original red morocco case of issue, the lid with gold embossed crown and "M.C."; fitted inner compartment, the lid`s inner cushion, with maker`s mark of Rothe, Vienna. A beautiful and very rare set of this order, as awarded by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, during his Viennese exile; excellent condition. I RR!
