1st Class Star. Breast Star in GOLD, the points with red, translucent enamel on finely chiselled ground; silver, intermediate rays, entirely set with brilliants, superimposed by green enameled laurel branches set with rubies to represent the berries; the centre, with highly polished, gold centre medallion embossed with the Sultan’s Tughra within a green enameled outer circlet enriched by three green enameled scrolls with inscriptions; smooth reverse, with a 5-pointed star within a laurel wreath; thin, round, horizontal pin also made of gold.
An outstanding, very rare star in the best, Turkish manufacture, pristine condition.
Instituted in 1878, to be awarded upon ladies for exceptional merits in the help and care of wounded and victims of accidents and catastrophes; generally awarded also as a diplomatic reward to high ranking, foreign ladies.
