GOLD, the obverse with the Sultan’s tughra within owers and bows, “1801” at the base; the reverse with Crescent and Star within owers and bows; with original chain-and-hook suspension, mounted to a bow of golden braid, of the type used for the ancient rank insignia of the Royal British Navy.
An extremely rare piece, very fine condition, possibly attributed to a high-ranking, British officer. See Edhem Eldem: “Pride and Privilege”, Istanbul, 2004, p. 40 – 44, for the fascinating and curious story of the creation and award of this decoration.
Dia.: 48,5 mm. I RR!
