IRAN - PERSIA

Neck Badge of the Order in GOLD, with white enameled arms, and green enameled laurel wreath; obverse centre medallion with rising sun on deep blue enameled ground; the reverse with inscription in Arabic calligraphy on white field; plain suspension ring and original, red neck ribbon with ties. An important piece of Persian manufacture, ranking amongst the
greatest rarities in Islamic phaleristic, extremely fine condition. This order was instituted by Fath Ali Shah in 1807 and divided in 3 classes; it was very rarely awarded, mostly to foreign dignitaries. Among the 1st Class, we can count Emperor Napoleon I and prince Talleyrand, both decorated in 1808. The order was discontinued, in favour of the Order of the Sun and the Lion. Dim.: 52,0x45,0 mm. I RR!
