Breast Badge, 48x35 mm., GOLD, a green enameled laurel wreath above a white enameled scroll bearing the motto “TRAVAIL FAMILLE PATRIE”, enclosing two dark blue enameled batons of Marshal of France, enriched by applied, tiny gold stars, the whole resting on the round cockade at the French colours, red, white and blue, the upper section of the red circle, bears the inscription “PETAIN”, the reverse shows the intricate assembly of the piece and the centre, counter-medallion is engraved with “CARTIER”, spring-actioned, double-pin suspension with special closure, in the original, gold embossed, red morocco case with maker’s mark of Cartier, Paris, printed in gold on the inner cushion, the name “CARTIER” is also impressed in gold under the case’s bottom.
An exceptionally rare piece, personally presented by Marshal Petain to a French notary, for his support in a confidential matter, extremely fine condition. I RR!
