1st Class Badge of the 1st Type. Neck Cross, 73 x 52 mm, white enameled, gilt Silver with crossed swords between the arms, red enameled centre medallion with golden, crowned lion, green enameled outer circlet with cyrillic, Bulgarian inscription “To the Valour” in gold lettering, red enameled, reverse centre medallion with gilt Tsar’ s monogram, green enameled outer circlet with cyrillic, Bulgarian inscription “Prince of Bulgaria” and “1879” also in gold lettering, ornated upper loop and hinged royal (princely) crown, round ring and tapering, pearled ribbon ring, with a length of original ribbon (from an unsewn trifold ribbon of a lower class of the Order), convex, white enameled. A very rare badge of this high order rewarding the valour in the field, superb condition. This order, instituted on April 17th 1879 by Prince Alexander, was destined to reward outstanding, and exceptional acts of valour during wartime. It was also award to foreigners, serving in armies allied of Bulgaria. I RR!
