North Carpathian, Blessing Cross, early 20th Century, Oil on Wood, 25x12.9 cm
The blessing cross can be easily held in the palm as they come with very convenient separators that allow the cross to be handled. In the Orthodox world blessing crosses made of wood and ornately covered with designs and icons were used by the priests in various moments of the liturgical life. Those smaller wooden crosses can be easily held by children during long processions without causing any undue stress. Even these simpler designs intricately depict the Holy image on them. Extremely fine condition!
